GL Hearn's Major Projects team are planning advisors to Barts Health NHS Trust, supporting them to submit two planning applications in relation to the redevelopment of Whipps Cross Hospital in East London. Two hybrid planning applications have been submitted which between them seek planning permission for the creation of a new 85,000sqm hospital, two multi storey car parks and a community health care building as well as up to 1,500 new homes with associated commercial, community and green space
Subject to approval, the 18ha site in Leytonstone, East London, will be transformed to deliver a brand new hospital able to provide health care services at the cutting edge of healthcare provision, improving access to health, social care and wellbeing facilities and improving the lives of local people through the curation of a blended approach of complementary facilities including leisure, culture and wellbeing. The provision of 50% affordable housing as part of the 1,500 new homes will create a pioneering mixed-use campus accessible to all.
Laura Meyer, Planning Director at GL Hearn, said “It is an honour to be working on this truly innovative project which seeks to deliver the transformative redevelopment of a well established hospital site. We are delighted that the planning applications which aim to secure planning permission for the redevelopment have now been submitted to London Borough of Waltham Forest and that we can continue to help deliver the Trust’s vision for the future of health and social care in East London.”
Deborah Sinclair-Day, Barts NHS Trust, said “Submitting planning applications is a significant milestone for the Trust in our aim to develop a brand new hospital at Whipps Cross. This represents the culmination of a huge amount of hard work and engagement with stakeholders, staff and our communities. GL Hearn’s advice and support has been instrumental in supporting us to reach this stage.”
The planning applications are now live on London Borough of Waltham Forest's planning portal.
GL Hearn’s Economics team and Neighbourly Matters team have also provided advice in relation to the proposals.
